Our Best Choice: In The Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser – 45 Pound Bucket
In The Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser
In the Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser is easy-to-use and dissolves fast. Maintaining proper pH balance is the key to maintaining healthy pool water. pH balance is how acidic or basic the water is. The pH scale is 0-14, and pools & spas should be between 7.2 – 7.6, ideally 7.4. If the pH balance fluctuates too high or low, you may experience negative side effects.
Low pH balance side effects can vary. It may lower the effectiveness of chlorine, create corrosive water, etching of the interior and irritation of skin and eyes. Etching can make the interior feel rough and uncomfortable. Low pH causes red eyes, dry skin and damaged hair. If you swim in a pool that has a low or high pH, make sure to rinse off in the shower immediately.
Begin with a water test. Water can be tested with a DPD/OTO droplet test kit, water test strips, or digital testing.
Once a test is complete, we want to begin with alkalinity – the buffer for pH. Start adjusting your alkalinity to a level between 80-120ppm*. Once your alkalinity is within range, we can start adjusting pH. Now, re-test the water. If pH is below 7.2, add 1 lb per 10,000 gallons (Don’t add more that 4 lbs at a single time).
Measure out the suggested product amount per water volume. Add pH increaser to a chemical-safe container and mix with at least 1 gallon of water to dissolve. Pour the mixture around the perimeter of the pool. The circulation system should be running during this process. Test the water again after 3-4 hours. Repeat as needed until pH is in desired range.
Parts Per Million*
For acidic pools, pH Increaser helps to
Raise pool water pH levels by neutralizing water acidity
Reduce eye and skin irritation by neutralizing water acidity
Slow the rapid dissipation of chlorine caused by acidic water
100% Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash)
Initial Dosage: 1 lb. per 10,000 gallons
In The Swim’s Recommended Pool Care
Alkalinity is the buffer or stabilizer for your pool or spa pH. Alkalinity is measured in parts per million (ppm). An ideal alkalinity range is between 80 – 120 ppm. If the Alkalinity is below 80 ppm, we recommend In The Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If your Alkalinity is above 120 ppm, In The Swim Pool pH reducer will do the trick. Alkalinity over 120 ppm may cause the water to cloud up and cause scale to form. Alkalinity under 80 ppm will cause the pH to move freely on its scale. This can damage the pool or equipment over time with corrosion.
pH is the measure of the acidity in a pool. If the alkalinity is out of range, pH has the capability to move freely on it’s scale (0-14). This may cause the pool water to quickly become either acidic or basic. If the pH is low, we recommend adding In The Swim Granular Pool pH increaser. If the pH is very high, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH reducer. Low pH can cause corrosion to the pool and equipment. It is also uncomfortable feel for hair, eyes, and skin. If the pH is high, the water can start forming scale build up.
Even after all preparations, life happens and your pool or spa can get away from you. In those moments, we need to start back from the beginning with testing the water. The ranges for Alkalinity are 80-120 ppm, pH scale is 0-14 with a range of 7.2 – 7.6 and an ideal of 7.4. If alkalinity is low after testing, we recommend adding In the Swim Pool Alkalinity Increaser. If the alkalinity is high, add In The Swim Pool pH Reducer.
Now that the Alkalinity is within proper range, you can now balance pH. If the pH is low, meaning the water is acidic, add In The Swim Granular Pool pH Increaser. If the pH level is high, add In The Swim Pool Granular pH Reducer.
Q: Why should I care about the pool water pH level?A: A low pH balance can cause corrosion, damaged vinyl, plaster and other pool surfaces as well as pipes and other pool equipment. Low pH May also result in bather eye and skin irritation. A high pH balance can cause scale build up on the interior surface, plumbing, and equipment. This will slow the flow rate and circulation rate of the pool.
Q: What is the ideal ph level for my pool?A: Your pH level should be between 7.2-7.6, with an ideal of 7.4.
Q: How much pH Increaser should I use to raise the pH?A: In The Swim pH increaser should be added at a rate of 1 lb per 10,000 gallons.
Q: What is the chemical name for pH increaser?A: pH increaser is also commonly called soda ash, or sodium carbonate.
